Let's Talk About... the Art of Being a Mother
Institut Français, Frederiksberg · 125 kr. · ≈ 17 €
Motherhood has been a recurring theme in art for centuries - particularly in Christian iconography with the Virgin Mary as the focal point. As more women began to establish themselves as artists in the late 19th century, new ways of depicting the relationship between mother and child emerged.
In this lecture, Philippe explores these changing images of motherhood through works by Berthe Morisot, Mary Cassatt, Anna Ancher, Suzanne Valadon, Tamara de Lempicka and others. He also examines how their male colleagues treated the same theme.
The lecture is held in easily understandable French. Wednesday, 9 December at 13:00 at Institut français du Danemark, Rolighedsvej 37, Frederiksberg. Price: 125 DKK (ticket fee included).
