Odense Agora: Men are from Mars and women are from Venus...Not!? - A talk about gender archetypes, stereotypes and the history of ideas.

Woman is nature and body, man is culture and spirit. Woman is uncontrollable emotion, man is controlled thought and will. Woman gives life, man creates only through thought. Man is Being, woman is Nothingness. Man is active, woman is passive. Man is ego, woman is the unconscious. Through myths, religion, popular culture and science, we have inherited a long series of ideas about what gender is - biologically, culturally and cosmologically.

Kristoffer Steensgaard does not know what gender is, and does not attempt to provide an answer. Instead, he will tell about all the strange and interesting things that have been said about men and women throughout history.

The talk is part of Odense Agora, which Dolphin Philosophy and Teater Momentum arrange together. The concept is named after the central square in the ancient Greek city-states, where citizens gathered to debate matters of common concern - and which is considered the birthplace of Europe's first public sphere and democracy. The talks series brings people together around topics that affect our shared life today.
