We think we know the witch - from popular culture and feminist discourse. But who were the people actually accused of witchcraft in the 16th and 17th centuries, and what happened to them? This lecture examines the question more closely, drawing on examples from Southwest Jutland.

Esbjerg Byhistoriske Arkiv is the municipal archive for Esbjerg Kommune, collecting records of both public and private origin connected to the city. It is housed in a building from 1904, originally built as a technical school and designed by architect C.H. Clausen. Beyond standard archival work, the institution runs courses, public city walks and a digital image archive of more than 100,000 photographs. Admission is free.
