Bat Tour at Ulstrup Castle

When darkness falls over Ulstrup Castle, the creatures of the night emerge. This evening focuses on bats. Using detectors, we can hear the ultrasonic calls of bats as they fly through the night sky hunting for small flying insects.

Where there is water, you often see water bats hunting just above the water surface. Perhaps we will spot some of Denmark's 17 registered bat species?

We meet at Ulstrup Castle. We hear a brief introduction to the site's history. Then biologist and nature guide Vibe Søndergaard tells us about bats in general and prepares the detectors. We then walk at bat-listening pace - slowly - around the estate buildings, past the ponds and down towards the Gudenå river.

The estate offers a wide variety of habitats for bats, and the area around the ponds and water stairs is an ideal spot with plenty of different hunting grounds! On the tour, everyone is invited into the bat's wonderful world.

The event is for both curious adults and adventure-loving children. It requires no prior knowledge - just curiosity and a desire to experience nature in a new way. Bring a torch if you like, and remember practical clothing and footwear.

The bat detectors cannot withstand rain, so if rain is forecast, we will have to cancel.

The tour is arranged in collaboration between the Nature Guide in Favrskov Municipality, Ulstrup Castle and DN Favrskov.

Registration is first come, first served, as we have a limited number of detectors. Registration opens from 10 August at 12:00.
