Scientific Lecture - Seaweed with Marine Biologist Annette Bruhn

Marine biologist Annette Bruhn gives a lecture on seaweed: what algae actually are, how they differ from plants and animals, and how to cultivate them - both at sea and on land.

Kelp forests along the world's coasts play a crucial role in marine ecosystems. They provide shelter and food for countless marine organisms, absorb nutrients and CO2, produce oxygen, and slow ocean acidification. For thousands of years, humans have harvested resources from the sea in the form of seaweed - for food, animal feed, fertilizer, gunpowder, and materials. The lecture also explores the potential importance of seaweed for climate, food production, and biodiversity in the future. There will be an opportunity to taste seaweed.
