"When I Went Mad" - Author Peter Øvig
1. Hovedbiblioteket, Randers · 75 kr. · ≈ 10 €
In January 2018, Peter Øvig was admitted to the closed psychiatric ward at Rigshospitalet with a diagnosis of severe psychotic depression. After a series of electroconvulsive treatments, he was discharged two months later with no signs of mental illness - yet the road back to everyday life and family was still long.
Based on his book "I Am What I Remember" (September 2021), Peter Øvig speaks about descending into deep depression and undergoing electroconvulsive therapy - a method he feared more than almost anything else, but which proved to be miraculous. He also recounts discovering that after his illness, he had actually become a different person.
The lecture takes place in the Kulturhuset hall, Stemannsgade 2, Randers C. There is a break during which you can eat food you bring yourself or order a sandwich from Kulturcaféen for 52 kr. - the sandwich is ordered when you buy your ticket.
