Ableism - Power, Humanity and the Myth of the Normal Body

What is ableism, and how does it shape our society? This lecture features disability researcher Emil Falster, drawing on his book "Ableism - Power, Worldview and the Myth of the Normal Body". The concept covers the discrimination that arises when society systematically favours those regarded as physically and mentally "normal", healthy, or neurotypical.

Falster examines, grounded in research, how ableism operates on multiple levels: in society's structures, in institutions, in relationships between people, and in the self-perception that people with disabilities and functional variations may develop. He also looks at the concrete consequences for people with disabilities and functional variations.

The lecture takes place in the Kulturhuset hall, Stemannsgade 2, Randers C, and includes a break where you are welcome to eat. You can bring food from home or order a sandwich from Kulturcaféen for 52 kr. - this is arranged when you buy your ticket.
