Cultural Heritage Under Threat - Global, National and Local Seminar

This seminar examines the state of cultural heritage - globally, nationally and locally, encompassing both intangible and tangible heritage.

Worldwide, historic buildings face threats from war, despotism, climate change and loss of value - notably in Iran. In Berlin, viable East German buildings are being demolished while the Kaiser's palace is reconstructed instead of the Palast der Republik. In Denmark, political historical amnesia, major infrastructure projects and neglect lead to the disappearance of sound buildings and unique landscapes. Additionally, the state agency for heritage protection (Frednings- og FBB) is being dissolved, and registration in the SAVE system is being transferred to municipalities. Locally in Lyngby-Taarbæk, there is a strong willingness to grant exemptions, and the municipality's green character and diverse building stock are under pressure.

The seminar raises the questions: How do we secure the cultural heritage of the past and leave quality for future generations? Who has the right to define what is remembered - and what is erased from history?

- Local perspective: Representative from Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality on exemption and demolition practices in relation to the cultural strategy's statements on cultural heritage and community

The programme includes discussion, lunch and a guided walk through Bondebyen. The seminar is arranged in collaboration with the Building Culture Association and the Historical-Topographical Society for Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality.
