The Hassan Family - Theatre

A Royal Danish Theatre production based on Steffen Stubager's 2024 book "The Hassan Family", in which Yahya Hassan's mother and four siblings - Kawther, Khadeeja, Abd Al-Salam and Abdullah - speak publicly for the first time about Yahya, his childhood in the Trillegården housing district near Aarhus, and a life marked by displacement, refugee trauma and family violence.

Iraqi-Danish director Sargun Oshana dramatizes the story of the environment from which Yahya Hassan's pain and poetry emerged - a reality rarely spoken aloud in today's Denmark. Yahya's death in 2020 left the family in grief and shock.

On stage: Ellaha Lack, Zere Celik, Arian Kashef and Wahid Sui. Kurdish singer and musician Rezwan Taha created the production's music.
