Reading Circle: "The Liar" vs. "Sandø's Rose"

In the winter and spring of 1950, actor Poul Kern read Martin A. Hansen's "The Liar" aloud on the radio over twelve Sundays. The radio novel became a major listening success and was later published as a serial in Berlingske Aftenavis with illustrations by Ib Spang Olsen. It was adapted into a film in 1970 and is today considered a classic among Denmark's best-selling books.

In 2026, Jesper Wung Sung published "Sandø's Rose" - his version of the novel, giving voice to the person Johannes Vig is in love with. The same days in March on Sandø are now retold from Annemaris's perspective.

The reading circle is led by Inger Nygaard Kaad and meets twice in Meeting Room 1 at Dronningborg Library, 2nd floor:
