About the venue: Alice

ALICE is a regional music venue in Nørrebro, formed in 2018 from the merger of the former venues Global and Jazzhouse. Named after American jazz pianist and composer Alice Coltrane, it focuses on music that rarely finds space on Danish stages - from global roots, folk and jazz/improv to sound art, new composed music, metal and electronic experiments. The venue also stages concerts at external locations such as Marmorkirken and Glyptoteket.

Oki Kano is the man behind the revival of the tonkori - a five-stringed Ainu instrument that stood on the edge of extinction before he picked it up in the 1990s and began composing new music for it for the first time in generations. With his Oki Dub Ainu Band, he fuses indigenous melodies from Hokkaido with dub bass, reggae and African percussion into a sound unlike anything else.
