Viktoria Søndergaard: SECRETS

Award-winning vibraphonist, composer and bandleader Viktoria Søndergaard presents SECRETS - her most personal project to date. The band features five musicians from the Danish scene: Elvira Skovsang, Øyunn, Ida Duelund and Frederik Blæsild Vuust.

The music in SECRETS moves freely between jazz, chamber music, pop, rap and Scandinavian folk, as Søndergaard explores the boundary between composition and improvisation with both vulnerability and strength. The Carl Prize 2025 described it this way: "The music is full of imagination, life-affirming joy and the desire to turn dreams into reality."

The album "Music of Secrets" has been warmly received by the international music press. Jazzthing (Germany) calls it "music of ruthless intimacy, which can hardly be categorized, but which captivates everyone." Jazzwise (UK) describes it as "an enchanting debut where Søndergaard moves effortlessly between jazz and experimental expression." Verhoovens Jazz (Netherlands) writes: "Music that doesn't ask 'do you like me?', but 'are you awake?'"

Søndergaard is known from projects such as BARYL and SMUK ZVUK (with Klára Pudláková) and has collaborated with, among others, Marilyn Mazur, DR's Big Band and Tivoli's Ensemble. She has received the Aarhus Jazz Talent Prize (2022), Tivoli's Jazz Prize (2022), Roager Legacy (2024) and the Carl Prize Honorary Prize check (2025), and in 2025 she was nominated for the Danish Music Award as musician of the year.
