Writing Workshop: Historical Fiction with Author Marie-Louise Cornelius

This workshop explores historical fiction - stories where real events and places blend with invented characters and plots. We examine how research can make your story credible without overwhelming it with details, and the difference between writing about real people (exofiction) and creating your own characters within a historical setting. We'll discuss the challenges of writing about events that actually happened and how to find the stories you want to tell.

The workshop alternates between short presentations and practical writing exercises, giving you the chance to test ideas and draw inspiration from other participants. No prior experience with historical fiction is required.

The instructor is Marie-Louise Cornelius - author, theatre and film director, actor, and audiobook narrator. She has written the feel-good series Hjerteblink and the historical family romance series Mellem lys og skygge and Bag facaden af Glas, which explore women's liberation, film history, and cultural and technological development in the 20th century. She holds a degree in dramaturgy and has taught both adults and children to write.

The workshop is free but requires registration on billetto.dk. It is aimed at adults and takes place in Bryggekælderen at Islands Brygge Bibliotek, Njalsgade 15 - entrance via the courtyard. Bring your own laptop and/or paper and pen, as computers are not provided and charging options are limited. If you're unsure about directions, ask the staff or find the basement stairs closest to the library's courtyard side.
