Behind the Nordic Region's New Front Line

Europe has entered a more uncertain era. The war in Ukraine, increased great-power rivalry, and tensions in the Arctic have fundamentally altered the security landscape - and the question is no longer whether security is under threat, but how Denmark and its neighbours should navigate a world that has become harder to predict.

Security policy researcher and military historian Niels Bo Poulsen provides an overview of Denmark's current situation and the challenges the country faces. He examines what the realm's position between the Arctic, the Nordic region, and the Baltic means when multiple security geographies pull Denmark in different directions - and raises the question of whether the Nordic countries today have sufficiently aligned interests to act as a unified player on the international stage.
