Forbidden Books: Film Screening of The Librarians

More and more books are being banned - particularly in the USA, where many titles have been removed from school libraries, while librarians fight to keep access to knowledge open.

The documentary The Librarians (2025) follows librarians from Texas who face pressure, surveillance, and censorship because they refuse to remove certain books from their shelves. The film shows how they become frontline figures for freedom of expression at a time when democracy is under strain.

Before the screening, there will be a brief talk about banned books throughout history, and cake will be served. After the film, there is an opportunity to browse books that are now or have previously been banned.

The event is part of the #ForbiddenBooks campaign, which runs from 5-11 October at schools and libraries across the Nordic region. The campaign is organized by Danish PEN and has similar events in the USA, Sweden, Norway, and the UK. Venue: Orange Scene.
