Sewing Community in Silkeborg - Boomerang Bags
Silkeborg Bibliotek, Silkeborg
Every Monday, a group of volunteers gathers at the sewing machines at the libraries in Them and Silkeborg to sew sustainable fabric bags from surplus and recycled materials. The bags have replaced the library's plastic bags.
The concept is called Boomerang Bags internationally and originates from Australia. The idea is simple: you bring a bag with you when you borrow books and return it the next time you visit the library. Recycled fabric and straps have been donated by local businesses Mascot, Dacapo Stainless, and HMT Design.
You don't need to be an experienced seamstress - there are templates and expert guidance, and most people find it relatively easy to get started. You're welcome to bring your own sewing machine, but it's not required, and you don't need to attend every session.
