Allehelgen - Between Life and Death

Librarian Jan M. Johansen - co-founder of Skrækfest and member of Dansk Horrorselskab - explores the significance of Allehelgen (All Saints' Eve) and its enduring fascination. The evening begins with a short presentation followed by a showcase of books about life, death, and horror.

Allehelgensaften falls the day before Allehelgensdag, which in Danish tradition is celebrated on the first Sunday in November. In the folk church, candles are lit to honour the faithful and remember the dead - but according to pagan sources and folklore, it is also the night when witches, ghosts, and the powers of darkness can enter our world. Halloween, which originates from English-speaking countries, is celebrated on 31 October.

The event takes place at Scenen at Roskilde Bibliotek. The venue has good wheelchair access, space for walkers and prams, and those with hearing difficulties are welcome to bring their own hearing aids.
