Author Evening with Pernille Juhl

Most people know Karen Volf from supermarket cake shelves - but who was the woman behind the name? This question is at the heart of Pernille Juhl's latest novel "The Scent of Vanilla", which she presents at Kjellerup Library.

The novel is exofiction, a genre where real people's lives form the basis for fiction. Karen Volf grows up in the countryside in the late 1800s and is raised to become a farmer's wife, but she dreams of something else. Through hard work, talent and strong will, she builds a business that later becomes Denmark's first cake factory.

Pernille Juhl previously published "With a Pinch of Love" in 2025, which tells the story of Miss Jensen. In conversation with literature mediator Imone Kramer, she discusses the work of transforming historical figures' lives into novels, the genre's particular fascination, and the research behind it.

The event takes place in the Rotunda at Kjellerup Library.
