Lytteklubben Jazz: SteepleChase

This evening's listening club focuses on SteepleChase, the Danish record label founded by Nils Winther in 1972. For decades, the label served as a haven for American jazz musicians who struggled to find opportunities at home, playing a role in modern jazz history comparable to the significance of the Montmartre Club for Copenhagen's jazz scene in the second half of the 20th century. The label's profile has consistently centered on acoustic jazz with room for improvisation and artistic freedom.

The programme ranges from pianist Kenny Drew and multi-reed player Anthony Braxton to more recent releases featuring pianist Carl Winther and American saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi.

The evening is hosted by Andres Wulff Vissing Christensen. The listening club meets almost always on the first Wednesday of the month at Scenen in Roskilde Library - no musical background is required, only a desire to listen and discuss the music afterwards.

The venue is accessible for wheelchair users, walkers, and prams. Hearing-impaired visitors are welcome to bring their own assistive devices.
