Mathias Heise / Pelle von Bülow Duo

The Heise/von Bülow Duo brings together Mathias Heise and Pelle von Bülow, two of Denmark's leading young jazz musicians. They have performed together for many years in various constellations, but the intimate duo format has proven particularly resonant with audiences. Their collaboration has now resulted in an album due out in autumn 2026, and this concert serves as the release concert - likely the only one before spring 2027.

Mathias Heise discovered the harmonica at age 8 and is today a world champion in chromatic harmonica, a title he won at the World Harmonica Festival at age 20. Since then, accolades have followed: Jazz Newcomer of the Year (2015) and the Crown Prince Couple's Starlight Prize (2016). He is also a pianist and composer who has released the album The Beast (2018) with the DR Big Band, three albums with Mathias Heise Quadrillion, an album with Mathias Heise Quintet, and an album with accordion virtuoso Bjarke Mogensen. This autumn he is otherwise occupied with his major project Mathias Heise Orchestra, which makes the duo performance in October all the rarer.

Pelle von Bülow is a sought-after guitarist on the Copenhagen scene and recipient of the Erik Moseholm Prize (2022) and the Tivoli Jazz Prize (2020). He moves comfortably between jazz, Latin, blues, funk, R&B and pop, and is a regular member of Erran DD's orchestra Drori Hansen's Furniture. Tonight's repertoire spans jazz standards, jazzified pop classics and original compositions.
