Documentary Film: The Librarians

In 2021, the so-called Krause List in Texas - containing 850 titles about race and LGBTQIA+ - triggered a wave of book bans that has since spread across the United States. The film follows librarians who refuse to back down and continue fighting for free access to knowledge and reading freedom despite harassment, threats, and legislation directly targeting their work.

Along the way, the librarians uncover connections between local boards and more extreme forces behind the censorship movement - and the film shows how the dispute over books is really about something far larger: control of ideas and thus control of society as a whole.

The screening takes place in connection with the #BannedBooks campaign in week 41.
