Creature Close-Up is a group led by Portuguese saxophonist, composer and improviser Bernardo Tinoco. The ensemble was formed in Copenhagen and reflects Tinoco's musical expression through compositions written for musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds. Jazz tradition is a clear source of inspiration, but the repertoire also draws on pop and classical music.

Butcher / Corsano / Stoffner (21:00)
John Butcher: saxophone · Florian Stoffner: guitar · Chris Corsano: drums

"Three men who could easily make things soar if they felt like it. But all three have always had an intuitive sense of refinement - for the overtone that emerges in the attack, and for the spaces between the notes. Corsano's rhythms, even when he plays freely, are like spider silk on a foggy morning. Butcher is a master of subtle overtones and small deviating tones - which he can naturally control to the finest detail - that surround the notes and bounce back from the walls and audience. Stoffner has the same precision in attack and sensitivity to the smallest detail. The guitar is famous as the instrument that allows even the untrained to grasp a chord and let it say 'twang', but it is also an instrument of extraordinary refinement and a wealth of hidden sounds: sighs, small tinkling tones like from a music box and big chords driven forward with force." - Brian Morton
