Knit and Listen: Forbidden Books

Words have power, and the books we read shape how we see the world and ourselves. Throughout history, states and powerful figures have tried to ban and censor books to control what we can read and think - and especially what they don't want us to read.

This evening features readings from books that have been banned or censored around the world over time. We explore the different reasons these books have faced resistance and reflect on the importance of being able to judge literature for ourselves - works that challenge the norms of their time or conflict with the politics and values of the places where they are published.

Bring your knitting needles and let your hands work while we read aloud - but knitting is not required. The library provides coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.
