What if the problem isn't those who stand out, but our very idea of what is normal?

In the lecture "We Are All Different", anthropologist and author Christian Groes challenges our understanding of normality and highlights the value of human diversity. Drawing on his own life as a father to Oskar, who is neurodivergent with autism and ADHD, he shares an honest account of the journey from worry and guilt to understanding and pride.

Christian Groes combines personal experience with research on neurodiversity and anthropological insights. He examines how society, schools, and workplaces are often designed around a narrow ideal of how people should think, learn, and function - and how that ideal can create distress and loneliness for many children, young people, and adults.

Through stories from family life and anthropological studies in the Amazon rainforest, he presents an alternative perspective: that being different is not a flaw, but a strength. Neurodiversity is described as a natural diversity of ways to experience and understand the world, and the lecture argues that society should accommodate many different needs, senses, and brain patterns.
