Aarhus Then and Now - watercolors and photographs: 5 January – 25 January 2027, Hovedbiblioteket, Aarhus. Admission is free.

Yulia Nielsen Reznik and Aage V. Nielsen owned nine watercolors by Harald Borges that hung in their apartment in Moscow. When they moved to Aarhus in December 2022, Yulia began exploring the city and discovered that many of the motifs looked markedly different from the paintings - an observation that sparked this exhibition.

The exhibition consists of 21 prints of Harald Borges' watercolors depicting Aarhus from the 1960s and 1970s, set alongside photographs of the same places and buildings as they appear today. The prints come from Aage's father, physician Otto Nielsen, who knew Harald Borges through board work - including with the Danish Red Cross's Aarhus branch - and received 21 prints over the years as gifts for Christmas, birthdays, and special occasions.

Harald Borges was committed to documenting old Aarhus, which he feared would disappear with the many plans for street breakthroughs and new construction. The exhibition shows that fortunately things did not turn out as badly as he had feared.

The exhibition covers three areas in central Aarhus: the Cathedral and surrounding streets, Nørreport and Studsgade, and Vestergade, Grønnegade, and Møllestien.
