In War and Love - Southern Jutlander's Diary: Wednesday 21 October 2026, 14:00–16:00, 1. Hovedbiblioteket, Randers. Admission is free.
What does it do to a person to grow up in occupied Southern Jutland - and then be forced to fight for the occupying power?
Jens Jørgen Refshauge's grandfather received one day's notice when he was conscripted as a German soldier during World War I. He was away from his home, his wife, and their nine children for all four years.
In this lecture, Jens Jørgen Refshauge tells about the events that shaped his grandfather's and family's life. He has read his grandfather's handwritten memoirs, letters home to the family, and diaries from the Eastern Front - hundreds of letters that together provide a rare detailed picture of daily life at the front.
Jens Jørgen Refshauge is a former parish priest in Kristrup. Participation is free, but registration is required via the ticket link or in the Book Bus.
