Johanne Mygind - My Grandfather's Poison Depot: Tuesday 27 October 2026, 19:00–21:00, Ikast Bibliotek, Ikast. Tickets cost 50 kr.
Johanne Mygind's grandfather was operations director at Cheminova from 1953 to 1960, responsible for the factory's production of toxic substances - including the poison depot at Høfde 42, where over 200 tons of chemical waste lies buried today. The family never spoke about it. Whenever Johanne Mygind tried to bring it up, the answer was always: "That was a different time."
In 2023, she moved to Lemvig to dig into her family's history and truly understood what her grandfather's decisions had meant - for the people of western Jutland and for her own family.
In this lecture, she tells about the silence she grew up with and what it took to break it. Drawing on the novel Giftig and the podcast series "My Grandfather's Poison Depot", she raises the questions: What do we do with the parts of family history we cannot speak about? When is obedience a virtue - and when is it a failure? What do we owe those who come after us?
A personal lecture about inheritance, responsibility and denial.
