Jazz Night Zelva & Malthazar
Operaen Christiania, Copenhagen
Extreme Fusion Jazz Night featuring two bands: Zelva and Malthazar.
Zelva is a self-composing jazz-rock trio from Copenhagen with Magnus Munch on electric guitar, Anders Ahrensbach on drums, and Liva Sahl on electric bass. The sound is built on electric guitar with double delay, heavy drums, and melodic bass lines - moving throughout the evening between explosive and melodic moments. The trio draws inspiration from jazz-rock in the style of Mike Stern from the mid-80s and 70s rock like Led Zeppelin, characterized by long improvised solos, rock and funk riffs, and unison bebop passages played by guitar and bass.
Malthazar is led by saxophonist Asger Maltha Rasmussen and places itself in a modern, groove-oriented jazz and fusion universe following artists like Herbie Hancock, Snarky Puppy, and Mathias Heise Quadrillion. The music combines complex arrangements with improvisation solos, and the band draws on everything from double pedals and effect pedals to electronic synth-saxophone. The musicians have backgrounds from Southern Denmark Conservatory, MGK Hovedstaden, and Skurup Folkhögskola in Sweden. The lineup includes Asger Maltha Rasmussen (tenor saxophone/EWI), Oliver Dam Fredens (guitar), Christian De Fine Olivarius (keys), Villads Søderblom (bass), and Viktor Bjørnstad (drums).
