TRANSFORMATIONS - Throwing and Deconstruction
BIBLIOTEKET Rentemestervej, Copenhagen · 1100 kr. · ≈ 147 €
Ceramic workshop: TRANSFORMATIONS with Aleksander Glich: 28 November – 29 November 2026, BIBLIOTEKET Rentemestervej, Copenhagen. Tickets cost 1100 kr.
The course runs both days from 11:00 to 15:30. Afterwards, there is an opportunity to continue working independently until 18:00, with guidance from Aleksander Glich and assistance from potter Bjarne Christensen.
Aleksander Glich will present the methods he uses in his own work - throwing, assembly and deconstruction - and discuss the ideas and analyses behind them. The artist describes the course himself:
"The workshop will focus on section throwing as a technique of introducing spontaneity into designed form. Fundamental shapes of cylindrical bottle and spherical moon jar will be analysed from the perspective of deconstructing them by bringing out their constituent elements. Participants will be introduced to the methods and aesthetics of assembling thrown shapes that the artist has learned and developed during his studies and apprenticeships in Korea, Poland and France. The participants then will be encouraged to apply their personal interpretation of these techniques to the forms they work with in their everyday practice."
Although Aleksander Glich works with thrown pieces, the methods and thinking behind them also apply to those working with modelled forms. This is a rarely offered and highly inspiring course with limited places, distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
About the artist: Aleksander Glich studied at the Polish Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design and holds a master's degree in Polish literature from the University of Warsaw. He later apprenticed with Korean ceramicist Seungho Yang at his studio in Taen, South Korea, and has also worked in La Borne, France. He currently works at Guldagergård, International Ceramic Research Center. His works have been exhibited in Poland, Korea and France, and he is currently participating with works in this year's ClayTopia at Guldagergård.
Venue: The ceramic studio at Birkedommervej 43.
