The Yayas in Bryggekælderen

The Yayas reunion concert: 18 October – 23 October 2026, Bryggekælderen, Copenhagen. Admission is free.

In the early 1980s, Sheffield's music scene was a thriving hub of creative new bands, a stark contrast to the city's struggling steel industry. The Yayas are documented in two books about this era as a central figure in Sheffield's musical life during 1982-83, though the band never released an album.

Two distinct groups gathered around the band: mods and scooter enthusiasts dressed as if they'd travelled through time from 1965, and the city's arty-farty circles with vintage clothing and striking hairstyles. The latter included members of the post-punk band Artery and an emerging Pulp - Jarvis Cocker himself opened for The Yayas with his avant-garde duo Fish & Breadcake.

Forty years after their last hometown concert, The Yayas have been invited to reunite for a show in Sheffield in November. Before that, they're inviting Copenhagen friends and other interested listeners to Bryggekælderen to hear the band rehearse and find their form again: The Yayas 40 Year Reunion Rehearsal Show.
