Morning Ceramics Course with Manuel

Ceramics course - sketch to kiln: Monday 30 November 2026, 12:00–16:00, Vesterbro Bibliotek og Kulturhus, Copenhagen. Tickets cost 3200 kr.

This ten-week ceramics fundamentals course is built around project-based learning. Rather than isolated exercises, you work on developing and completing whole pieces such as bowls, vases, sculptures, and decorative objects. Along the way, you learn techniques including coil-building, slab construction, press-molding, and kurinuki, with a thorough introduction to clay and its possibilities.

Each class session starts with a concrete project. The instructor presents inspiration materials - objects, images, and visual references - to help you develop your own ideas and personal visual language. You are guided through the entire process, from sketch and construction to glazing and firing, gaining a deeper understanding of both the craft and artistic expression.

The course welcomes both beginners and experienced participants. Teaching is tailored to each individual, so you can work at your own pace regardless of level. If you have previously attended one of Manuel Canu's courses, you can build on your existing skills. Part of the programme also focuses on working consciously and sustainably - emphasizing quality and depth over quantity, with attention to material and energy use in the process.

Instructor Manuel Canu is a trained ceramicist with many years of experience in sculptural ceramics. He has exhibited internationally, studied and worked in England, and now runs a ceramics studio and gallery in Copenhagen with a group of artists.

The course takes place in the ceramic studios at Vesterbro Library and Cultural Centre, where all participants help maintain the workshop. The course fee covers instruction and materials, and you are expected to help with tidying and share responsibility for maintaining the space with other users.
