Ceramics Fundamentals Course with Manuel Canu
Vesterbro Bibliotek og Kulturhus, Copenhagen · 3200 kr. · ≈ 428 €
Ceramics Fundamentals with Manuel Canu: Monday 30 November 2026, 17:00–21:00, Vesterbro Bibliotek og Kulturhus, Copenhagen. Tickets cost 3200 kr.
This 10-week introductory ceramics course is built around project-based learning. Rather than isolated exercises, you develop and complete whole objects such as bowls, vases, sculptures, and decorative pieces. Each session starts with a concrete project, and you learn techniques including coil-building, slab construction, press-molding, and kurinuki, plus gain a thorough introduction to the material and its possibilities.
The instructor presents inspiration through objects, images, and visual references to help you develop your own ideas and visual language. You are guided through the entire process, from sketch and construction to glazing and firing, gaining a deeper understanding of both craft and artistic expression.
The course welcomes both beginners and experienced participants, as teaching is tailored to each person. If you have taken one of Manuel Canu's courses before, you can build on your existing skills. Part of the programme also focuses on working consciously and sustainably - you are encouraged to prioritize quality and depth over quantity, and to reflect on your material and energy use in the process.
The course is taught by ceramicist Manuel Canu, who has many years of experience with sculptural ceramics and has exhibited internationally. He now runs a ceramics studio and gallery in Copenhagen with other artists. In the ceramics studios at Vesterbro Library and Cultural Centre, everyone contributes to maintaining a healthy and clean working environment. The course fee covers instruction and materials, and students are expected to help with tidying and share responsibility for maintaining the space with other users.
