Brede Høker celebrates Morten's Eve this year with the traditional menu: confit duck leg with duck sauce, cherries, potatoes and red cabbage. The price is 250 kr. per person; children under 12 pay 135 kr.
This year the evening is divided into two seatings, at 17:45 and 18:15. For the first seating, drinks and food are ordered at 17:30, and the meal is served around 17:45. For the second seating, orders are taken at 18:00, with service around 18:15.
Morten's Eve stems from the story of Bishop Martin of Tours, who hid among geese to escape being appointed bishop. In remembrance, people eat goose - or in modern times duck - on the evening before Morten's Day, that is, November 10th. The name Morten Bisp or Sankt Morten dates back to 1616, when the stories of Martin of Tours were first written down in Denmark.
