Hjemstavn - Book Launch and Artist Talk
For more than two decades, photographer Helga Theilgaard has created photographic works about people, vulnerability, and belonging. Now she turns her camera toward her own origins. On the occasion of Skive's 700th anniversary, she is publishing the photobook Hjemstavn - a personal narrative from the Skive region - on August 14, 2026 with Forlaget Wunderbuch.
Hjemstavn is neither a traditional hometown book nor an idealized story about the provinces. The photographs move between portraits, landscapes, places, objects, and images from old albums - between the documentary, the staged, and the remembered. Together they paint a picture of a region with history, closeness, distance, vulnerability, and pride.
At the book launch, moderator Joan Laurberg interviews photographer Helga Theilgaard and some of the contributors to the book. The conversation centers on questions such as: What does origin mean today? How much are we shaped by the place we come from? Following the discussion, there will be a book signing.
The event is free, but registration is required due to limited capacity.
