War's Dilemma

Victor Greve served as a military chaplain in the Danish Army and was deployed to some of the world's most conflict-affected regions. Drawing on his own experiences, he brings the audience close to the dilemmas of war, its human costs - and the difficult journey home to Denmark.

On the front lines in Afghanistan, he served as a spiritual counselor for Danish soldiers, confronted daily with life's fragility and the reality of death. His return brought new trials: he found himself at the center of a media storm, with newspaper stories accusing him of active participation in combat operations. This resulted in charges carrying the risk of life imprisonment and sparked debate among politicians and church leaders.

In the lecture, Greve puts words to the reality of war, the responsibility of a military chaplain, and what it means to return home to a life that will never be the same. He poses questions such as: What is a human life worth? How do you hold onto hope when everything seems lost?
