Reading of Vilhelm Moberg's "The Emigrants"

Ole reads aloud every Wednesday from Vilhelm Moberg's "The Emigrants" - four novels published between 1949 and 1959.

The books follow Karl Oskar and Kristina Nilsson and other common folk from Småland who emigrated to Minnesota in the middle of the last century. The themes span the encounter between individual and community, the small and the large world, wanderlust and homesickness, past and future.

Vilhelm Moberg (1898-1973) was a Swedish author and playwright, born and raised in a modest soldier's home in Småland, where he began his writing career as a regional and folk poet.
