Who Decides? - The Power of the Media

Magtudredningen 2.0 (The Power Study 2.0) examines how power is exercised in Denmark today and how it has evolved since the first power study around the turn of the millennium. This lecture places the media at the centre - as watchdog, agenda-setter, and political actor.

Professor of political communication, Ph.D. David Nicolas Hopmann, presents some of the project's first results and sheds light on the media's importance for democracy, political debate, and citizens' trust in decision-makers. Who really holds the power - the politicians, the journalists, or the citizens? And what have social platforms, misinformation, and alternative media done to the relationship between media and power?

The lecture also opens up discussion on how to safeguard democracy for the future. The event is organized by Lillebælt Folkeuniversitet as part of Folkeuniversiteternes Dage 2026.
