Maribo Miniby

Since the Middle Ages and into the early 1900s, night watchmen were a fixture of city life - they patrolled at night, monitored street lighting, and raised alarms in case of fire. In Maribo, this tradition was revived in 1989 when the Fire Department celebrated its 250th anniversary, and since then the watchmen have used their role to share the city's history.

The event opens with remarks from chairwoman Lindy Fynholm, who explains how Maribo Miniby came about and what the volunteer builders have invested in the project. Afterwards, Terkel Jakobsen - who has served as a night watchman in Maribo for 13 years - guides participants around and tells the stories of the buildings and everyday life in the old market town.

Maribo Miniby is a non-profit association founded in 1995. Its project is a detailed 1:10 scale model of Maribo as it appeared between 1850 and 1900 - built and maintained by volunteers as a framework for community. Tickets are purchased at lollandbib.dk. The meeting place is the hall at Maribo Library. Admission: 50 kr. - newsletter subscribers pay 40 kr., students and young people under 25 pay 25 kr. (bring valid ID).
