Gert - Voices of the Street

Gert has been a drug user for over 30 years, most of them in Vejle. As a child, he fell outside social structures; as a teenager, he was misunderstood; as an adult, he fled into drugs. Only now does he see a future.

During a tour through the environment, he tells about life with drugs and friends: where he stayed, how he obtained and used drugs, and the times he nearly died from them.

Gert grew up in Vejle with his older brother, who was harsh with him both physically and psychologically. Already in kindergarten, he stood out and was bullied severely every day - it got worse at school. He grew up fighting his older brother, social problems, neglect from the system, and many psychological issues. The feeling of standing outside normal life led him to cocaine, heroin, hash, pills, and more.

In January 2021, he stepped out of heroin treatment and now lives largely without drugs. Since then, it has gone up and down, but he does not give up.

He wants to give an insight into what it is like to live under harsh conditions and how life can end in a deep hole. Drugs can cost everything - economically and in the family. Friends, partners, and housing disappear, and life as homeless on drugs is no party. Gert destroyed his own life and does not want the same to happen to others, neither young nor old. It can happen to anyone, and he would not wish it on his worst enemy.
