Car-Free Sunday on Nørrebrogade 2026

For the 8th time, Nørrebrogade closes to both cars and bicycles, transforming the street into a pedestrian zone. This year it happens at the end of August and earlier in the day than usual.

Organizers provide thousands of pieces of chalk for the year's large street chalk art - but feel free to bring your own. From around 12:00, associations, performers, and cultural makers set up activities for all ages. This year's graphic design is by Matilde Digmann.

Traffic info: Nørrebrogade is closed from Dronning Louises Bro to Borgmestervangen at Nørrebro Station. At Jagtvej/Runddelen, cars and bicycles can pass through during the event. The street reopens around 18:30.

Car-free Sunday is also bike-free Sunday on Nørrebrogade - cyclists are encouraged to walk their bikes or choose another route that afternoon, as there are many children playing on the street.
