Shape Clay in the Morning: Ceramic Basics with Manuel Canu

Manuel Canu teaches ceramics over ten weeks using a project-based approach: instead of isolated exercises, you work from idea to finished object - whether bowls, vases, sculptures, or decorative pieces. The techniques you'll encounter include coiling, slab construction, press-molding, and kurinuki.

Each group starts with a concrete project, where Manuel presents objects, images, and visual references as a starting point. From there, you're guided through sketching, construction, glazing, and firing. Part of the course also focuses on conscious use of materials and energy - quality and depth are valued over quantity.

The course is open to all levels. Teaching is tailored to the individual, and if you've taken Manuel Canu's instruction before, you can continue where you left off. Manuel Canu is a trained ceramicist with many years of experience in sculptural ceramics and has exhibited internationally; he has studied and worked in England and today runs a ceramic studio and gallery in Copenhagen with a group of artists.

The course fee covers instruction and materials. Participants are expected to help with cleaning and maintaining the studio.
