Christine Swane combined the nature-inspired sensibility of Funen painters with the liberating abstraction of modernism. Jeppe Priess Gersbøll, artistic director at the Johannes Larsen Museum and curator of the exhibition, gives a lecture on her life and art from around 1920 onwards.

About the venue: Nivaagaards Malerisamling

Nivaagaards Malerisamling is an art museum next to Nivågård, founded when landowner Johannes Hage transferred his private collection to the public as an independent institution in 1908. The permanent collection covers the Italian and Northern European Renaissance, Dutch Baroque and the Danish Golden Age, and the museum has gained international recognition for its holdings of female Renaissance and Baroque artists. Two to three temporary exhibitions are held each year, often featuring more recent art. The museum sits in a large garden with old trees and rhododendrons, and runs a programme of lectures, concerts, guided tours and drawing classes.
