In the old smithy at Det Grønne Museum, you can meet the volunteers as they work at the forge, shaping iron with fire, hammer and anvil - the way it has been done at Gammel Estrup for centuries.

The smithy was built in 1761 as part of the large complex of farm buildings at Gammel Estrup from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is located at the outer edge of the farm buildings, deliberately placed there so that any potential fire could be more easily contained.

Det Grønne Museum's blacksmith guild demonstrates the craft in practice with fire in the forge and hammer against anvil - and along the way the blacksmiths share experiences and stories from life as smiths.
