Poetry Slam KBH Championship, Qualification Round 1 — Valby Kulturhus, Copenhagen

Poetry Slam KBH Championship is a competition in spoken word, where "poetry" is understood broadly: poetic texts, stories, literary curiosities and genre hybrids are all welcome. Humor, nerve and thought-provoking content are at the heart of it.

The championship takes place over three qualification rounds in September, October and November 2026, with a final in January 2027. Qualification round 1 features former slam DM winner Peter Dyreborg as host and auditor-performer Rasmus Rhode as co-host. The feature star is Anna Arvidsdotter, an award-winning Swedish author and legend from the poetry slam scene in Malmö. The competing slammers will be announced later (TBA).

The show starts at 20:00 and ends around 22:30 including a break. Doors open about 30 minutes before - Bastard Café in Valby Kulturhus opens earlier. Tickets are cheaper in advance, and students get a discount.

About the venue: Valby Kulturhus

Valby Kulturhus on Valgårdsvej is a municipal cultural centre run by the City of Copenhagen, spread across 4,400 m² on five floors. It houses a theatre hall, ceramics workshop, atelier, makerspace and Spillaboratoriet - a hub for roleplaying, board games and cosplay. The children's section Børnekulturstedet on the second floor offers dance, theatre and open playgroups, while Bastard Café has moved in with over 1,000 board games. The venue also serves as a platform for cultural creators testing new projects.

About: Peter Dyreborg

Dyreborg was there when poetry slam arrived in Denmark in 1999 and has toured the country ever since - from North Jutland libraries to Copenhagen's Skuespilhuset. As national champion, organiser and teacher, he has shaped the Danish slam scene more than anyone else.
