Exhibition: The Social Life of Dead Bodies X A Name, Not a Number

The exhibition 'The Social Life of Dead Bodies X A Name, Not a Number' is located in two places: the foyer of Nørrebrohallen and at Nørrebro Library (to the right of the main entrance). Opening hours follow Nørrebrohallen's own schedule.

Each year, an unknown number of refugees attempting to reach Europe die - and for those left behind, it often means years of uncertainty. The exhibition explores what it means to lose someone whose death is never properly registered. Stories, sound and video installations, poems, a reconstruction of a shipwreck, and maps illuminate the work of identifying people whom statistics reduce to numbers. The Mediterranean is present as a concrete, sensory element - connected to the journeys and losses the exhibition explores.

The exhibition is based on two ERC-funded research projects, SOLID and LABANOF - MUSA, which investigate what it means for families to lose a member or live without knowing what happened to a loved one.

Important information: The exhibition addresses sensitive themes such as death and loss. All events are in English. Bring headphones and a smartphone - audio content is accessed via QR codes.

Opening reception 24 September, 17:30-20:00

At 18:00 there will be an opening speech with an introduction to the exhibitions and the underlying research field, followed by alcohol-free refreshments. Mirko Mattia, curator and conservator at CAL and MUSA - LABANOF, Institute for Biomedical Sciences for Health at The University of Milan, participates from Milan. Lecturer and PI of the SOLID project Anja Simonsen and postdocs Gül Üret and Félicien De Heusch present their work. Research assistant and multimodal anthropologist Arendse Reeh showcases parts of the exhibition's experimental research communication, developed in collaboration with the research group and participants from the field.
