About: George Balanchine

Balanchine's choreographies - from the neoclassical Serenade to the perennial Nutcracker - are staged by companies on every continent and form the backbone of the American ballet canon. His close collaboration with composers such as Igor Stravinsky, and his conviction that dance itself should be the star of any performance, left a mark that every ballet stage still carries today.
