Author Talk with Kim Leine

Kim Leine's new novel "Olavs hus" follows three generations of his Norwegian family through dreams of freedom and independence - and the forces that oppose them: poverty, loss, and religious fanaticism. The novel is also the author's own story as the lost son who must cross an entire century to reach his mother's tale.

At Østerbro Library, a librarian speaks with Kim Leine about what prompted him to write this family history now - at this point in his life and literary career - and how the writing process unfolded, including what surprised him along the way.

Kim Leine (b. 1961) is an author and trained nurse. He debuted with the memoir novel Kalak and has since received, among other awards, the Nordic Council's Literature Prize and De Gyldne Laurbær for his historical novels about Greenland. "Olavs hus" is published in June 2026 as the first volume in the trilogy "Kors og kød".
