Hexerie, or Blind Alarm - A Holberg Comedy
Ehlers Samlingen - en del af Historie Haderslev, Haderslev
Hexerie or Blind Alarm is a comedy by Ludvig Holberg that revolves around theatre folk, deception, and failed ideals. The play follows the actor Leander, who abandons his artistic values and poses as a sorcerer to escape his debts. Meanwhile, personal conflicts unfold within the theatre group, particularly between Apelone, her former lover Leander, and the young Terentia. The play has many loose ends and unresolved plot threads, and Holberg uses especially the final acts to criticize both his rivals and religious opponents. The result is a story where the boundary between illusion and reality becomes blurred, and where lies and deception play a central role - both on stage and in the characters' lives.
