Late Runner + Palace Winter · KLEIN, Copenhagen
Description was written before the event

Two prominent names from the indie scene perform at Dansepaviljonen on KLEIN on September 4th. Late Runner brings 30 years of collaboration and a thoughtful, introspective sound, while Palace Winter delivers melodic indie with international reach. An evening of strong songs and intimate connection with the audience. Doors at 18:30, concert at 19:00.

Late Runner consists of Asger Tarpgaard and Tanja Simonsen. They began playing together as children (celebrating 30 years!) and around the turn of the millennium, alongside Thomas Troelsen and others in Superheroes, helped define Danish indie pop-rock. They toured Europe, USA, and Japan. Later they followed Troelsen into the retro-pop studio band Private. Now reunited as the duo Late Runner, they are backed live by a drummer and a tape machine. Comparisons can be drawn to artists as diverse as George Harrison, Pulp, and Air. In spring 2026, Late Runner participated in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with the track "Can U Feel It?", written together with Jesper Mortensen from Junior Senior. Asger and Tanja describe their DMGP participation as "punk" 😊

Late Runner's second LP "You're an Animal" came out in 2023. Like their debut "Nothing's Real Anymore" from 2021, it was released on the Crunchy Frog label. The musical expression in Late Runner sounds more thoughtful and mature than Asger and Tanja's earlier work. The music is quieter and the lyrics bear the mark of half a lifetime lived. Critics write: "It sounds easy when you hear the music, but in Tarpgaard's well-crafted troubadour pop there is something - quite a lot actually - at stake. He himself calls the songs mature, and he is no longer a flying teenage hero, but good musicians fly easier with age" (Kristeligt Dagblad, Andreo Mielczarek, 4/6 stars). "Now Asger Tarpgaard has formed a new group, Late Runner, whose current debut release functions as one of the year's best Danish pop releases so far" (Jyllands-Posten, Kasper Schütt-Jensen, 5/6 stars).
