Seaweed Lamp Workshop

Join designer Jonas Edvard for a hands-on seaweed lamp workshop. Learn the complete process from algae to finished lampshade, exploring sustainable biomaterials made from renewable resources.

The workshop begins with a theoretical introduction to Jonas Edvard's work developing new sustainable materials from natural resources. He explains the motivation behind seaweed material development and the processes needed to create an algae-based adhesive from brown algae harvested in Nordic waters. You'll discover why and how lamps are made from a blend of algae adhesive and recycled paper, and learn about the different components of algae, their properties, and their potential in our living environment.

After the theory, you'll work hands-on with Jonas Edvard. Mix algae adhesive and paper, adjust material consistency, apply it to a mold, then work on thickness, detailing, surface control, and final dehydration and drying. Each participant creates one lamp.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. The workshop welcomes people with disabilities; those with special needs should be accompanied by a caregiver. Appropriate work clothes are required, and an apron is mandatory.
